Summary

First Aid

In all cases remember:

  1. Stay calm
  2. Look at your watch.
  3. Keep the person away from danger.
  4. Stay with the person, be reassuring, and offer emotional support.

If there are convulsions:

  1. Protect the person from injury, but do not restrain them.
  2. Never put anything in the person’s mouth.
  3. Let the seizure take its course.
  4. Roll the person in a gentle way when the seizure is over.
  5. Keep an eye on the person until he/she is fully alert again.
 Red Cross symbol Call an ambulance if:

  • If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes.
  •  If the seizure repeats.
  • If the person having the seizure is pregnant or has additional medical conditions.
  •  If confusion more than one hour.
  • If consciousness does not return after the seizure has ended.
  • If the person receives an injury.
