Some people may be drug-resistant and require other treatments such as surgery.

• When performing a surgery, the strategy is to identify the area of abnormally discharging neurons (the “seizure focus”) and to remove it when possible.

• In people with an identified complex partial seizure focus, the success rate of surgery is up to 80%.
